Who We Are
Goals and Strategies
In alignment with its mission and its values, AHPCO shall pursue the following goals and objectives through the following strategies over the next three years. Outcomes listed shall form a basis for evaluation.
Goal 1.
Form a united body to develop and promote high standards to ensure provision of quality hospice and palliative care.Objectives 1.1 Expanded Board.
Strategy 1.1
- The Board will appoint/elect new members to fill all vacancies on the Board Outcome 1.1
- The Board will have no vacancies (i.e. the Board will include 12-16 members, excluding ex-officio members) and Board will fill vacancy by appointment as soon as possible at its discretion
Objectives 1.2 Board Orientation
Strategy 1.2
The Board and the Executive Director will work together to provide orientation, including a Board Manual, for each of its members.Outcome 1.2
Every new member will receive orientation to the Board and organizational expectations. In a addition its new members will be assigned a mentor.Objectives 1.3 Additional members from AHPCO's customers and other stakeholder groups.
Strategy 1.3
Board's Membership Services Committee will work with the Board. Treasurer and Executive Director to recruit additional members in every category.Outcomes 1.3
Membership will increase within AHPCO's non-provider categories by at least 20% per year over the next three years.Goal 2
Provide a unified voice to the community and government agencies to promote uniformity in the application of rules and regulations that affect provision of hospice and palliative care.Objective 2.1 Positions papers reflecting AHPCO's values and principles influencing policy-making and legislation in Arizona.
Strategy 2.1
Executive Director and the Legislative/Regulatory Committee developing position papers and distributing these papers to Arizona's policy makers, State legislators and other elected officials, and to interested customers and other stakeholders through mailings, personal visits, and AHPCO's web-site.Outcomes 2.1
Position papers developed and distributed to key committee legislators (i.e. leadership, members of the health committees) and included on AHPCO's website as opportunities arise.Objective 2.2 Press releases reflecting AHPCO's values and principles informing new media and the general public.
Strategy 2.2
Executive Director, the Education Committee and the Legislative/Regulatory Committees, in coordination with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) will develop press releases and distribute these releases to Arizona's media outlets (i.e. newspaper, television and radio stations) and include them on the AHPCO web site.Outcomes 2.2
Press release developed and distributed at least quarterly to every major media outlet in Arizona.Objective 2.3 Awareness of major public policy discussions related to end of life issues by members of Arizona's legislature, its State agencies and those participating in public community forums.
Strategy 2.3
The Executive Director and representative(s) of AHPCO's Legislative/Regulatory Committee will monitor Arizona's legislative process, State agency and community forums, and create open channels of communication with key representatives of government agencies, as well as state legislators and other elected officials.Outcomes 2.3
- Construct ongoing legislative agenda with End of Life Issues.
- Contact legislators regarding reimbursement issues, which would make hospice care more available to rural areas that are currently denied hospice access as opportunities arise.
- Provide testimony as needed.
Goal 3
Provide for an open exchange of information among all groups and individuals interested in hospice and palliative care as an element of a rational, comprehensive continuum for total health care.Objective 3.1 An informed membership.
Strategy 3.1
The Executive Director and the Membership Services Committee will enhance and expand AHPCO's newsletter to include state and national news related to AHPCO's mission, values, and principles. This newsletter shall be improved over time through an evaluation process that invites and considers readers feedback.Outcomes 3.1
- A monthly newsletter shall be accessible for all of AHPCO's members via fax, e-mail and/or via AHPCO's web site to include a list of board members.
- Invite hospices to turn in "Inspirational Stories" every quarter to be placed in the monthly newsletter (notify hospices we have the right to edit material for space and content).
- Add description of committees and remind members they do not need to be a member in Phoenix to participate.
Strategy 3.2
The Executive Director and the Membership Services Committee develop and maintain an information/referral telephone and Internet service at AHPCO's state headquarters. The website will solicit information of interest to consumers and try to implement it.Strategy 3.3
The Executive Director and the Education Committee will host and participate in forums, symposia and other public discussions for and wit AHPCO's customers and other stakeholder groups.Strategy 3.4
Design and implement a public relations campaign to support AHPCO's mission. Will pursue the May 2003 public awareness/fundraising campaign with New Zealand.Outcomes 3.4
Increase number of stakeholder groups able to identify AHPCO by at least one per year.Strategy 3.5
- Participate in end of life coalitions
- The Executive Director, and marketing/public relations committee and an ad-hoc advisory committee comprised of volunteers from the media and public relations firms, or public relations marketing students will develop and implement a sequential systematic public relations campaign. This campaign will utilize volunteer and/or paid staff expertise from AHPCO's customers and/or other stakeholder groups.
